Skirmish between Naxals and police near C'garh-Odisha border

Anexchange of fire took place between police and Naxals in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Gariaband district today.

However, no casualty was reported from either side.

The skirmish took place when a team of district police force was carrying out a search operation in Jugaad police station limits, Gariaband Superintendent of Police Jitendra Singh Meena told PTI over phone.

Gariaband district which borders on Odisha is around 100 km from the state capital Raipur.

Naxals fired upon the police team in the jungles of Sahbin Kacchar village, he said.

After the police retaliated, the rebels escaped towards the forests close to Odisha border, said the SP.
 

Couple of detonators, bags, Naxal literature, etc were found during subsequent search.

Bloodstainsfoundatthespotindicated that some Naxals were injured in the gun-battle but their colleagues managed to take them away, the SP said, adding that further details were awaited as the police team was yet to return to its camp.

In a major Naxal attack, as many as 25 CRPF jawans were killed in Sukma district of the state two days ago.
