SL court remands four Indian fishermen till the month end

A Sri Lankan court today remanded to judicial custody till July 31 four fishermen from Pudukottai who were arrested by the Island nation's navy near Neduntheevu, a fisheries department official said.

Assistant Director D Shekar said the fishermen, who were stranded in mid-sea following a technical snag in their boat near Neduntheevu in the wee hours yesterday, were arrested by the Sri Lankan navymen, leaving their boat there.

Later the boat was brought to shore by fellow fishermen.

They were produced at Oorkavalthurai court and the magistrate ordered their remand.

They have been lodged in Jaffna prison.
