In a boost to ruling Trinamool Congress' prospects in Darjeeling hills, slain All India Gorkha League leader Madan Tamang's son Sanjog Tamang today joined the party in Sukhna's Methibari area.

Giving the information, North Bengal Development Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Gautam Deb told PTI, "Madan Tamang's son Sanjog Tamang today joined Trinamool Congress in a party meet here. He will be soon given a big responsibility."

Madan Tamang, a widely respected leader in Darjeeling hills, was hacked to death in broad daylight while he was making arrangements for a public meeting at Chowkbazar near the Mall in Darjeeling town on May 21, 2010.

The development is significant as Madan Tamang had all along demanded a separate state and it came at a time when the state government was locked in a bitter fight with the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha over the statehood issue.
