Family members of the deputy jailor, who was shot dead by four unidentified persons in broad daylight in Varanasi, today held a protest here and blocked traffic for hours.

45-year-old Anil Tyagi, deputy jailor of Varanasi district jail, was shot dead yesterday morning while he was on way to gym. Four persons on motorbike chased him as soon he came out of his car and started indiscriminate firing, hitting him on the temple, stomach and back.

Agitated over the killing, the jailor's family members, who live in Nehru Nagar here, blocked Meerut-Garh Road near Amrapali, affecting traffic for about four hours, police said.

The blockade was removed after an assurance by police and authorities.
