Stepping up attack on Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar over his controversial remarks in Pakistani media, Haryana minister Anil Vij today demanded registration of a sedition case against him.
The Haryana Health Minister slammed Aiyar and said "it was a shameful act as the Congress leader had insulted the entire country by defaming the Prime Minister".
"Aiyar's statement that the talks between India and Pakistan will not move forward until PM (Narendra) Modi was removed was highly objectionable and against the spirit of democracy. Congress President Sonia Gandhi should express regret for the action of the senior leader of her party," Vij, a five-time MLA from Ambala Cantt, told reporters here today.
Vij alleged that Congress leaders had got frustrated after the party's rout in the last year's Lok Sabha polls and subsequent debacles suffered in Haryana and Delhi.
"Prime Minister Modi is being widely appreciated throughout the world for his policies. Moreover, the Indian government has made all possible efforts to make cordial relations with its neighbouring countries," he added.
Aiyar stoked a controversy by reportedly saying, during a panel discussion on a Pakistani news channel, that Modi needs to be removed if talks between the two nations have to resume. His comments have evoked sharp reactions.
