Slight respite from blistering heat in North India

Traces of rainfall brought some respite in North India bringing the mercury down in states including the national capital, Punjab and Haryana.

The maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 39.8 degrees Celsius as against yesterday's 42.3 degrees Celsius, a MeT department official said.

The morning was cloudy and traces of rainfall were received. The minimum was recorded at 28.2 degrees Celsius, three notches above the normal and humidity levels oscillated between 45 and 29 per cent.

The weatherman has predicted partly cloudy sky for tomorrow with possibility of light rain or thunderstorm in few areas.

Light rains were received in parts of Haryana and Punjab bringing the mercury down by few notches.
 

Union territory Chandigarh recorded its maximum at 37.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the normal.

The city witnessed 9 mm rainfall early this morning, a MeT official said.

In Haryana, Ambala had a high of 37.2 degrees Celsius with rainfall of 12.8 mm while Karnal recorded its maximum at 37.2 degrees C. Narnaul's maximum was 37.5 degrees C, three notches below normal.

Bhiwani was the hottest place in the region with its maximum at 41.6 degrees Celsius while Hisar had a high of 41 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their maximum at 39.3 degrees Celsius and 38.6 degrees with rainfall of 2.2 mm and 4 mm respectively.

The mercury in Amritsar settled at 38.8 degrees Celsius.
