Slight respite from cold in Rajasthan

There was a slight respite from intense cold conditions as mercury rose at most places in Rajasthan today, though Mount Abu on the hills was still the coldest with a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius.

According to a MeT report, mercury has risen by one to four degrees Celsius at most places in north-west of Rajasthan in the past 24 hours. Mount Abu shivered under intense cold at 3 degrees Celsius last night.

On the plains, Udaipur recorded a minimum of 5 degrees C, about 2 degrees more than the previous night. Jaipur's minimum temperature too registered upward trend with the mercury touching 7.4 degrees Celsius.
 

A fresh western disturbance also hit Jaipur district with thick cloudy weather this afternoon, a MeT official said.

Due to foggy conditions in neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, six trains arrived late in Jaipur, and ten other trains were running late by 40 minutes to 13 hours, an North Western Railway (NWR) spokesman said.

Hawara-Sriganganagar train was running 13 hours' late, while Jammu Tawai-Jaipur by 4:30 hours and Varanasi-Jodhpur by 4:10 hours.

Chittorgarh recorded a minimum of 5.4 degrees Celsius followed by Pilani 6.3, Churu and Sriganganagar 7.4 each, and Kota 8.5 degrees.

Light rains or thundershowers may occur in north-east of Rajasthan in the next 24 hours due to arrival of western disturbance, according to a MeT forecast.
