Most parts of Gujarat today experienced a slight respite from heatwave as the mercury level dipped further with maximum temperature remaining below the 40 degrees Celsius mark due to cloudy skies coupled with dusty atmosphere.

While the highest maximum temperature was recorded in Surendranagar city at 41.3 degrees Celsius, it was recorded at 40.8 and 40.4 degrees Celsius at Vadodara and Idar respectively, a release by Meteorology Department said.

Ahmedabad and capital Gandhinagar both recorded maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperature in all other cities remained under 40 degrees, the release said.

Met officials have also predicted light to moderate rains or thundershowers at isolated places in some parts of the state tomorrow.

"Moderate velocity winds created dusty atmosphere in several parts of Gujarat today, including Ahmedabad. This has further brought down the (maximum) temperature. Light to moderate rain is also likely at some places in the state tomorrow," Assistant Director of Met Centre, Manorama Mohanty said.
