'Slumdog' writer to adapt Michael Ondaatje's novel into film

"Slumdog Millionaire" writer Simon Beaufoy is set to adapt Michael Ondaatje's immigrant- themed 1987 novel "In the Skin of a Lion" for big screen.

The story, to be produced by Serendipity Point films and Potboiler Films, focuses on romance and class conflict, reported Deadline.

Beaufoy's credits include "127 Hours", "The Full Monty", "Salmon Fishing In The Yemen", "Everest" and "Slumdog Millionaire", for which he won an Academy Award for the best adapted screenplay in 2009.

While, Ondaatje is best known for his novel "The English Patient", which was also adapted into film in 1996. The movie adaptation of his book received nine Oscars, including best picture, director and supporting actress for Juliette Binoche.
