A team of Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) today raided a meat shop in Subzi Mandi here and confiscated 387 Kg of chicken which was being illegally smuggled into the city.

The chicken seemed to be stale and even had fungal presence and its sample has been sent for test in the Veterinary Laboratory, SMC officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials raided a van of chicken which was being smuggled into the city.

The Shimla Municipal Corporation has constructed a modern abattoir which works under the supervision of able vets.

However, the smuggled chicken is believed to be dead chicken which was bought at cheaper rates and there are chances of the same to be infected, they said.

SMC does not allow open slaughtering of birds and will keepstrict vigil in future and shall deal strictly with the offenders who create havoc with people's lives, Deputy Mayor of SMC Tikender Panwar said.
