It was nothing less than a surreal experience for Vimla Bhargava, the mother of a CBSE awardee, when HRD Minister Smriti Irani came up to her and touched her feet and sought her blessings at a function here.

For Vimla is an ardent fan of the Minister and never missed an episode of 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', which made Irani a household name before she entered politics.

Sensing that this could be the right occasion for her 80- year-old-mother to catch a glimpse of the woman she adored on television, Vimla's daughter Jaishree Bhargava, principal of Aditya Birla Public School in Nagda, Ujjain, brought her to the CBSE awards function.

"While receiving the award, I told the minister about my mother and how she became a big fan of hers after watching the soap opera," Jaishree said.

At the end of the function, Irani walked up to Vimla, touched her feet and sought her blessings.
