The Indian veteran, who was eighth at the Ladies Indonesian Open earlier in the month, was lying 73rd and needed a good second round to make the cut.

Smriti, lone Indian in the fray this week, had her only birdie on the third, but bogeyed the first, fifth, eighth and 12th holes.

Spain's Carlota Ciganda, who is in the running for the Rookie of the Year award and Money List and is also slated to play the Hero Womens Indian Open in Gurgaon next month, got off to an explosive start by shooting a seven-under 65 to take the lead in the first round.

She leads compatriot Tania Elosegui by one stroke. England's Florentyna Parker helped by a chip-in birdie on hole No. 3 (her 12th) is in sole third place after 5-under 67.

In joint fourth place, with scores of 4-under 68 are South Africa's Lee-Anne Pace, France's Cassandra Kirkland and Germany's Caroline Masson, while local star Zhang Na, who gave birth to a baby boy five months ago, is tied seventh with Gwladys Nocera of France.
