Smuggled gold bars worth Rs 10 cr seized, 1 held

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence today seized about 16.5 kg of gold bars worth Rs 10 crore and detained a man for allegedly smuggling them from Sri Lanka to a village in Sivaganga district.

Acting on a tip-off, a DRI team intercepted a cargo van at Devakottai, 105 km from here early morning, police said.

A Chennai-based man named Satish was taken into custody. He had smuggled the gold bars from Keelakarai in the island nation and was transporting it in the van to the city, they said.
