Acting on a tip-off, Customs sleuths intercepted a passenger who arrived from Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia flight on the intervening night of May 3 and 4.
"Search of his personal baggage resulted into recovery of four cylindrical bars with hole, made of gold, each piece concealed inside the wheels of his trolley bag," he said.
The official said the collective weight of recovered gold is valued at Rs 9.64 lakh.
Although the airport got international tag in October 2010, the first direct international flight was launched in April, 2017 with an Air Asia flight to the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. Thereafter, Air India has also started international flight services to Bangkok from the Bhubaneswar airport in December.
