Smuggler arrested with 100 kg banned herb

An alleged smuggler has been arrested with about 100 kg banned herb in Kupwara district of Kashmir Valley.

Mohammad Anwar Shah, a resident of Dardpora area of the district, had kept the banned substance in the mini-bus he was driving and tried to sped away when police asked him to stop at a check-point at Sholora- Kralpora, a police spokesman said.

"A mini-bus tried to break the check-point but was chased by a police team, which intercepted it at Vasserkhate area. During search of the vehicle, 100 kg precious forest produce 'Tripatri' and Rs one lakh cash was found from the vehicle," the spokesman said.
 

Police have registered a case under Forest Act.
