Snag in heritage train leaves passengers stranded

Nearly 100 passengers of the Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) train were stranded for nearly two hours, after the train was stopped in the middle of the journey, following a technical snag.

The train which left Mettupalayam at 7.10 am, for Udhagamandalam, was brought to a halt near Kallar railway station coming under Nilgiris District, following snapping of the connecting rod, police said.

On information, a technical team reached the spot and rectified the fault after two hours, during which the passengers were stranded in the middle of the stretch, they said.

The train, which was stopped at 7.45 am, left around 9.45 am, they said.
