Delhi Metro services on Jahangirpuri- HUDA City Centre line were disrupted during the morning rush hours today after a train developed a problem in its automatic train protection system.

A train while leaving Civil Lines station at 8:58 AM could not move in ATP mode and efforts were made to reset the ATP system at intermediate stations of Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar, a DMRC official said.

Due to loss of ATP, as a safety procedure, the train was moving at a restricted speed of 25 km/hour only, which led to bunching of trains and caused inconvenience to hundreds of passengers.

ATP system relays signal, track speed and other information to trains and can automatically slow or stop trains if they exceed it.

The train was withdrawn from service at New Delhi Metro station at 9:32 AM and was sent to depot for further investigation, the official said.

"In order to cater to the peak hour rush, DMRC inducted two additional trains for interchange stations of Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat during this period and necessary announcements were also made at the stations advising the commuters about the movement of trains and delay in service," the official added.

The Line 2, Jahangirpuri to HUDA City Centre, of Delhi Metro gets the second highest ridership on the busy route. On an average over 8.87 lakh commuters travel on this route every day.
