The Uttarakhand government today entered into an agreement with online shopping platform Snapdeal to market state's handicraft and handloom products, a move which would give a major boost to sale of local products.
The agreement was formalised between Uttarakhand Handloom and Handicraft Development Council (UHHDC) and Snapdeal in the presence ofstate small scale industries MinisterHarish Chandra Durgapal and and a host of senior officials.
UHHDC is a state governmentagency set up to promote items manufactured by local artisans, handloom weaversand small entrepreneurs engaged in the sector.

The council has emporiums in Chamoli, Pauri, Almora, Haridwar and Dehradun for handloom and handicraft products of the state.
Around 100 popular handloom and handicraft products unique to Uttarakhandunder the brand name Himadrihave been cleared for sale through Snapdeal in the first phase, out of which 64 are currently available online, Durgapal told reporters soon after the agreement was finalised.
The remaining handloom and handicraft products of the state will also be made available online soon, he said adding it will be a major boost in terms of marketing for small entrepreneurs and their products.
Snapdeal senior vice president Vishal Chaddha expressed hope that small entrepreneurs will benefit immensely from the arrangement.
