Snehal lifts ITF girls singles title in Mauritius

Fifth seed Snehal Mane of India won the the girls' singles title and emerged runner up in the doubles event at the Petit Camp Cup Under 18 Grade 4 ITF tennis championships at the Mauritius Phoenix National Tennis Centre today.

Snehal, who is currently ranked 678 in the world, upset top seed Julia Vulpio - her doubles partner - of the Dominican Republic 5-7 6-2 6-2 in a 2-hour and 10-minute tussle to claim the singles title, said a press release from Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association's secretary Sunder Iyer.

The morale-boosting singles win was the Pune girl's first title after a gap of 2 years and would help her gain 40 ITF points.
 

In the doubles final, Snehal and Julia were the top seeds who went down fighting to second-seeded Hong Kong pair of Alvina Lai and Venia Yeung. Alvina and Venia prevailed 4-6 7-6(5) 10-5.
