Snow, rainfall witnessed in Himachal Pradesh

Rainfall and snow were recorded in high-altitude tribal areas and mountain passes in Himachal Pradesh due to which the mercury plummeted by five to 11 degrees.

Intermittent rains and light to moderate snowfall continued under heavily overcast sky and strong winds swept the region.

Rohtang Pass and Saach Pass received over 30 cm of fresh snow, while Keylong and Udaipur in Lahaul and Spiti district witnessed 6 cm and 4 cm respectively.

Kalpa recorded a low of zero degree Celsius, followed by Manali (2.6 degrees), Keylong (2.7 degrees) and Bhuntar (4.2 degrees). Solan, Shimla and Dharamsala recorded minimum temperatures of 6.1 degrees, 6.5 degrees, 7.2 degrees respectively.
 

The mercury dipped by five to 10 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state. The maximum temperature of Keylong was 4.8 degree Celsius, while Manali, Shimla and Dharamsala recorded a maximum of 11, 14 and 14.8 degree Celsius respectively.

Dalhousie was wettest in the region with 25 mm of rainfall, while Manali received 21.4 mm of rain, followed by Dharamsala (14.2 mm), Kangra (11 mm), Chamba (4 mm), Shimla and Kufri (both 2 mm).

The local Met office has forecast heavy rains or snowfall tomorrow and inclement weather for the next four days till Thursday, especially in the high-altitude areas.
