Snowfall, rain play spoilsport in Chardham yatra

Five people have died at Kedarnath due to extreme cold conditions in the last two days, following which the state authorities have asked the pilgrims to plan their trip keeping in mind the vagaries of weather.

The religious trip cannot be stopped, therefore, an appeal has been made to the pilgrims to plan their yatra at a "suitable" time, state Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar said here today.

The 'Chardham' comprising Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri were recently reopened for pilgrims. PTI CORR KAS
