The Ministry of Women and Child Development will soon launch a nationwide competition to select 100 dedicated working women contributing to create a difference in the society, and felicitate them.

The competition, a first-of-its-kind initiative taken by Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi, would be held on the social media platform where netizens would judge the candidates based on their work.

Interested women, irrespective of the area they are working in, will have to get at least 5,000 comments on their social media profile that testify their good work and dedication.

"It will be like a unique competition which has not been done before. Any woman who has influenced people around her, if she can get 5,000 people to write about her positive impact, we will invite her for lunch and give prizes to celebrate her success," Gandhi told PTI.

Selection will be done on the basis of public comments about them, the Minister said.

The Ministry will select hundred such women from social media websites like Facebook and Twitter. They will be called for lunch by the Ministry and will be felicitated.

"It will be a small gesture to honour dedicated working women contributing to create a difference in the society. There are many such women who are working for the society and never get noticed," said a senior official of the Ministry.
