Social security schemes are historic step: Irani

Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani today said the three new social security schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are historic step towards ensuring economic security for the people of the country.

"There was a promise that Narendra Modiji made to the people of this country that those who face economic challenges shall be given economic security," Irani told reporters here launching the schemes in Telangana.

"I am happy to say that three social security schemes launched by the Prime Minister -- Atal Pension Yojana, it benefits especially those in unorganised sector and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.

"It is historic because for just Rs 12 a year, a citizen can avail of benefits and cover for up to Rs two lakh in case of accidental death or mishappening and under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, for a mere Rs 330, life insurance cover is made available to every Indian citizen," she said.
 

"I congratulate the people of India who have bestowed their confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is with their cooperation and blessings that we will work on the path of financial security," Irani added.

Recalling that bank accounts more than the given target were opened in Telangana under the 'Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana', Telangana Finance Minister E Rajender said the state government would make all efforts for the success of the three social security schemes launched today.

Telangana BJP president and MLA G Kishan Reddy, BJP floor leader in the Legislative Assembly K Laxman, several other MLAs and officials were present on the occasion.

The schemes -- Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) -- were simultaneously launched at 115 locations throughout the country.
