Wondering if the society at large has forgotten the victim of Park Street rape incident, prominent women's NGO, involved in counseling of abuse victims, Elaan says NCB statistics show Kolkata as the most unsafe city for women in recent times.
"The Park Street incident has been no less horrific than the Nirbhaya brutalization in the heart of Delhi. But while we took so many candle light rallies for the Delhi braveheart, did we lose our sleep for the women at Park Street?" Elaan's spearhead Pranaadhika Sinha, herself a victim of abuse at a very young age, told PTI here.
"Do we at all know how she is faring at her residence in Behala area of the city. What is her condition and how she feels with the main acused still at large, "Sinha said at a discussuin and self-defence workshop "Being Woman 2014" here.
"She was stunned to learn how the four other accused still managed to run their facebook profiles and how many likes they were getting. She is a fighter but society must be on her side," Sinha said.
Citing another gruesome incident, of raping an 11-year old by her family elders at home, Pranadhika said "How much we consider women as Goddesses, it is a travesty of facts.
Pranadhika, who conducted a self-defence combat workshop at Stadel on Women's Day, said, "I have started getting feelers and feedback from the participants who let me know about the trauma they also face as women in homes and places, some of them. But it is confidential."
Citing patriarchy and misogyny as two possible key factors for depraved male psyche against women, the gusty lady, having ben part of the movement for 15 years, said, "Instead of being scared, for physically not equal to a man, we must be mentally resilient."
