Socio-economic caste census far from completion in UP, Bihar

Only 14.81 per cent of the population has been covered under SECC in Uttar Pradesh while 18 per cent of the population has been covered under the process in Bihar as on August 16 this year, according to an official data.

However, northeastern states like Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Mizoram besides Haryana, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala have completed the exercise initiated by states with financial and technical support of the Rural Development Ministry, as per data which formed part of Minister of State for Rural Development Pradeep Jain Aditya's written reply in the Lok Sabha today.

Union Territories including Puducherry, Diu and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Chandigarh also have completed the exercise launched to generate a large number of social and economic indicators relating to households across the country for their ranking.

 

The enumeration process is near completion in states like Punjab (97.07 per cent), Rajasthan (99.89 per cent), Chattisgarh (99.89 per cent), Jammu and Kashmir 99.79 per cent), Andhra Pradesh (97.71 per cent), Uttarakhand (99.71 per cent), Madhya Pradesh (99.48 per cent), Goa (98.99 per cent), Meghalaya (99.30 per cent), Tamil Nadu (98.20 per cent), Assam (97.03 percent) and Delhi (99.55 per cent).

As per the data, there is progress in the pace of enumeration in states including Maharashtra (87.37 per cent), West Bengal (69.19 per cent), Odisha (88.27 per cent) Manipur (44.27 per cent) and Jharkhand (60.56 per cent).
