Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi today urged business houses and various boards to come forward for the development of sports in the state.
He also urged them to adopt players and teams to help them fulfil their goals.
"Business houses and boards can play an important role in the development of sports and they must come forward. The government will hold consultations with renowned businessmen and boards' chiefs very soon," he said.
The minister stated this during a state-level function organised on the 295th birth anniversary of legendary Sikh warrior and Ramgarhia Misl founder Maharaja Jassa Singh Ramgarhia.
Sodhi said his department aims to improve Punjab's medal tally in the national games and performance at international sports events such as the Olympic, the Asian Games, and the Commonwealth Games.
He said special funds will be created for sports persons. The state government would also provide jobs to them according to their ability and performance, the minister said.

Maintaining that government is committed toward upgrading Punjab's sports infrastructure, the minister also announced a new astroturf for Ludhiana's Guru Nanak Stadium.
Recalling the contribution of Ramgarhia, the minister said he was a legendary Sikh warrior.
