A massive soil erosion has taken place at Dhussi Bundh near Khaira Bet village here due to sudden increase in the inflow into the Sutlej river.

The erosion which was 300 feet wide yesterday has widened further to about 600 feet, according to officials.

In response to district administration's call for help, a troop of army jawans today started repairing the Dhussi Bundh, constructed on the Sutlej river's banks.

A troop of 50 jawans started repair work on the bundh near Khaira Bet village under the supervision of Army's Lt Col Vivek Singh and Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Rajjat Aggarwal.

Asserting that there was no need to panic as repair work was going on "satisfactorily", Aggarwal said, "We are keeping an eye on the situation which is under control."

Army has been called to meet any eventuality, he added.
