Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said today that a committee will be constituted to look into the issue of soil theft from the Dadupur Nalvi canal project which has been shelved.
The matter will be investigated by the state vigilance bureau, he said after meeting the farmers who called on him to thank him for the decision to cancel the notification of the canal, here today.
Replying to a question, the chief minister said the state government was aware of the theft of soil from Kaushalya Dam in Panchkula, Ottu lake in Sirsa, and the Hansi Butana canal, and these would be investigated.
He said that Rajbir Singh, a farmer, had informed him that a contractor from Rohtak had taken away the soil from his field. This matter would also be investigated at the earliest, Khattar said.
The opposition has been "politicising" the issue, but now it has become clear that the canal is not in interest of farmers, he added.
The Haryana cabinet on September 27 had decided to scrap the Dadupur Nalvi canal scheme after approving a proposal of the irrigation and water resources department to denotify 1,019.2994 acres of the acquired land.
The decision to scrap the project was taken after the government found that this scheme was not "feasible.
