A summer soiree to raise awareness on the burning issue of violence against women and children in India will be organised at a nightclub in New York.

Around 300-350 young professionals, a majority of them Indian Americans, will jam at the hip event at EVR, a trendy midtown nightclub where DJ Suhel will set the mood with lively and fresh chart-busters tomorrow.

"This year the focus is to raise awareness around violence in India against women and children," said a statement issued by US-based NGO Children's Hope India here.

The funds generated from the event would be used to raise awareness on women and child issues.

Following the horrific gang-rape of a young woman in New Delhi last year, Children's Hope India is developing a multi-pronged approach to tackle some of the root causes of violence against women.

A spokesperson of the organisation said they are also trying to spread awareness about the stringent laws that have been recently enacted against the menace.

Founded in 1992 by a group of Indian American women professionals, the NGO sponsors health, education and vocational programmes for thousands of children in India.
