To save kharif crops in Solapur district which has received scanty rains this monsoon, the Maharashtra government has decided to release water from Ujjani dam.
Solapur district guardian minister Vijay Deshmukh had requested water resources minister Girish Mahajan to release water from the dam.
Deshmukh told reporters that the district has not had any rain barring a few spells at the end of June, but farmers have already gone ahead with sowing, so water was needed urgently for irrigation.
