A 24-year-old Egyptian soldier was killed and a policeman was injured today after an unidentified assailant opened fire at them in northern Sharqia governorate.
The two personnel were on duty in Abu Hamad village in Sharqia governorate when the attack happened, officials said.
Militant attacks targeting police and army personnel have become frequent in Egypt since the January 2011 revolution that toppled president Hosni Mubarak.

The attacks increased after the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
More than 500 security personnel have been reported killed since then.
