Soldier laid to rest with military honours

The body of 23-year-old Indian Army soldier Vijay Kumar, who died in an avalanche in Kargil area of Jammu and Kashmir, was buried with military honours at his native village Vallavaramapuram near Sankarankovil here today.

The mortal remains of Vijay Kumar, who was the sole bread winner of his family, was brought to Thiruvananthapuram by flight and from there to Tirunelveli by helicopter.

It was later taken to his native village by an ambulance.

Hundreds of villagers paid their last respects to the army man.

District Collector Karunakaran and Superintendent of Police Vikraman were among those who paid homage.

Vijay Kumar had gone missing following an avalanche in Kargil area on March 17.
 

Rescue teams of army managed to recover his body from under 12 feet of snow after three days of search operation in the area of avalanche.
