Only one woman candidate among four contesting the MCD bypolls, including three fielded by major political parties, emerged victorious today.

The sole winner, Yogita Rathi from Congress polled 4,879 votes to edge out AAP's Sunita Tokas by a margin of 770 votes in Munirka, the SDMC ward reserved for women.

Sudesh Tokas from BJP also fought unsuccessfully from the ward.

Rathi will fill the seat left vacant by former councillor Parmila Tokas who won the 2012 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election as an Independent but later joined AAP and was elected an MLA in the 2015 Assembly polls.

Sudha Sinha who contested from Matiala in South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on a Congress ticket could not make it. Anvika Mittal, who contested on an AAP ticket from Shalimar Bagh (North) in NDMC, met with a similar fate.

In these 13 wards, only one woman candidate (Parmila Tokas) had won in 2012 polls too.
