A son has allegedly burnt his father to death following quarrel over piece of land at Sariya village of Bihar's Katihar district.

Barsoi Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Chandrika Prasad said the deceased has been identified Sheikh Bahruddin (65) who was allegedly burnt to death by his younger son Mohammad Gyas for property.

Gyas used to fight quite often with his father demanding his share in the land, Prasad said adding that the son had a heated argument with father on Monday afternoon when the latter (father) was working in the field.

The son, who started fighting with his father, later allegedly put his father on fire on a bunch of maize stacks, the SDPO said and added that body of the deceased was recovered late last night.

The SDPO said that it would be known once the post-mortem reports came as to whether the deceased was first burnt after being murdered or whether he died due to burning.

The deceased's elder son Shahabuddin today lodged an FIR with Kadwa police station of the district against his younger brother Mohammad Gyas, the accused, who has been absconding since the incident, he said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem to Sadar Hospital today, SDPO said.
