A man and his father allegedly committed suicide one after another following a quarrel in Odisha's Ganjam district today, police said.

The incident happened near a river in Kusapada under the jurisdiction of Dharakote police station, the police said.

Both of them hanged themselves from trees, a police officer said.

The deceased were identified as 56-year-old Rajendra Panda and his 22-year old son Kalpabata, the officer said.

The son was the first one to commit suicide. His father then took the extreme step, the officer said, adding, they had quarrelled over the son's unemployment despite being an ITI graduate.

"We have started an investigation," the Officer-in-Charge of Dharakote police station, Subhalaxmi Pujari, said.
