Son of Bihar police officer killed in pub altercation

�Rakshit Singh Meena, the son of a Bihar police officer was beaten to death after an altercation in a pub here on Saturday, with five men, all said to belong to influential families in Sikkim, being arrested.

Rakshit, a student of the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology and the son of Deputy Inspector General, Purnia in Bihar B S Meena was beaten up after being threatened with a kukri following an altercation between SMIT students and the youths at Cafe Loud and Live on Tibet Road here, Superintendent of Police (East) Manoj Tiwari said today.

Rakshit died of his injuries while being taken to the Central Referral Hospital, Manipal at Tadong, he said.
 

The arrested were Gurmey Wangchuk (35), Vidhan Pradhan (32), Loden Sherpa (32) of Darjeeling, Sonam Namgyal (31) and Ugen Namgyal (21), Tiwari said.

The father of Gurmey Wangchuk is the UD&HD Secretary, Topjor Dorjee while Sonam Namgyal is the son of former power secretary, P Wangchen.

The police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
