A man in the US stole his 93-year-old father's corpse from a local cemetery because he wanted to resurrect him.

Vincent Bright, from Detroit, pleaded guilty to the charge of disinterring his father's body.

He claimed, he only did it in the hope that the deceased man would be resurrected.

Vincent, 48, allegedly stole the casket of his father, Clarence, from Gethsemane Cemetery on January 14 this year and stored the body in a freezer, ClickOnDetroit.Com reported.

The empty casket was found in a van that was parked at a gas station, while Clarence's body was discovered in a freezer in his son's home on Eastland Street, police said.

Clarence's son had told family and friends he thought God would bring his father back to life, the report said.

He was reportedly saying, "Wake up daddy. Wake up," when police picked him up.

Vincent is set to be sentenced on September 24.
