Chunu alias Attender, who holds a reward of Rs 25,000 for his arrest, was apprehended from Peetampura area yesterday when he came to meet his associates.
He was among eight persons who had escaped from the Sonepat jail on January 18 night. They had allegedly conspired with some of the jail staff and their associates outside the prison to come out from there.
Five jail staff and at least 12 others, who had allegedly conspired and provided logistic support, were arrested earlier. Kingpin of the gang Manoj was arrested from Delhi in May.
Chunu is allegedly involved in six cases -- two each cases of murders and attempt to murder cases and one each case of encounter with police and bank dacoity.
"He told us that he and his associates were desperate to come out of jail. They smuggled in a mobile phone and organised their escape from the jail. They managed to smuggle iron cutting blades inside the jail. They organised a feast and got prepared 'halwa' inside the jail.
"They secretly mixed sedatives in the 'halwa' so that the jail inmates in their barrack slept while they worked to escape. When most of the inmates were fast asleep, they cut through the iron grills in barrack of the jail. They scaled the roof and reached the rear wall of the jail," Jain said.
Their associates threw ropes over the boundary wall to help them escape from the prison.
"He disclosed that the reason for his escape was to complete his unfinished business of killing persons inimical to him," Jain claimed.
