Sonepur records 44.2 degrees Celsius

The mercury level remained above 40 degrees Celsius in 13 places of Odisha today with Sonepur as the hottest place at 44.2 degrees Celsius, while the sunstroke toll remained static at 14.

The number of alleged sunstroke death cases has increased to 152 of which 14 have been confirmed as heat-related ones, a report from the office of the Special Relief Commissioner said.

Sonepur was followed by Bhawanipatna and Titlagarh at 43.5 degrees Celsius.

Other places which experienced the heatwave condition were Bolangir at 43 degrees Celsius, Angul at 42.7 degrees Celsius and Jharsuguda at 42.4 degrees Celsius, the Met office here said.
 

The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar increased to 41.5 degrees Celsius against yesterday's 40.8 degrees Celsius, it said adding relative humidity at 75 per cent.

Meanwhile, a bulletin issued by the Met office said the heatwave condition would prevail for two more days and thunder squall may occur at some places in the state.
