Congress president Sonia Gandhi today expressed grief at the passing away of Mohinder Kaur, the mother of Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, and recalled her contribution to the party and the country.
In her condolence letter to Amarinder, Gandhi described Kaur as a lady who lived her life with utmost grace and dignity, and a strong sense of service to the Congress party and the nation.
"In her years as a member of the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, she demonstrated unshakable patriotism, as well as her commitment to furthering education, and through that the values of good citizenship," Sonia said in her condolence letter, adding that the Rajmata was admired and respected across the political spectrum.
"Rajmata lived a long and fulfilled life, and your own career in public life must have been a source of great pride and joy to her," Gandhi said in her letter.
