Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal extended his greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu.
In a message today on the eve of the socio-cultural festival of the state, Sonowal said "Bhogali Bihu personifies abundance and symbolises intrinsic harmony of the people of Assam with nature."
"Moreover, the tradition of setting of Mejis (temporary constructions with hay and bamboo) on fire so integral to Bhogali Bihu celebrations, also symbolises melting away of all evil energies and beginning of all auspicious forces," Sonowal said.
He also said "Let the celebrations of Bhogali Bihu by all cutting across the people of Brahmaputra and Barak Valley, plains and hills strengthening the age old friendship and camaraderie and augurs universal brotherhood among all ethnicities, caste, creed and religion in Assam.
