Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today laid the foundation stone for doubling the railway line between Hojai and Lumding.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal lauded the efforts and dedication of the Railway Ministry under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for developing railway infrastructure in the region.

People of Assam have been expecting doubling of railway line for the last 70 years, however, within two years in office, the BJP led government has taken up the plan and implemented it ushering in an era of fast development in the state, he said.

"Assam has no dearth of resources, however, with the development of Railway infrastructure, the resources of the state can be tapped and Assam can scale a new height," Sonowal said and thanked Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain for their initiatives.

Stating that Assam has been lacking in development and many of the state's demands remained unfulfilled, he thanked the Prime Minister and Railway Minister for paying special attention to the region and hoped that Railways will act as the growth engine for the area.

Calling upon the people of the state to extend all cooperation to the Railways for realisation of Railway projects, Sonowal assured that the state government will extend all help.

The Chief Minister also laid emphasis on maintenance of cleanliness in railway stations and all residential areas and called upon the citizens to actively participate in Swachh Bharat Mission.
