Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today mooted the idea of 'Team Assam' to ensure participation of all people in expediting the development of all sections of the society.

"The people of Assam have put a new dispensation in power and it is now the government's duty to serve them with honesty, utmost dedication and determination", he said while chairing a review meet of Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of 16 Lower Assam districts at Bongaigaon.

The Chief Minister told officials to adopt a "humane approach" to complete updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) within the stipulated time frame.

He directed the DCs and SPs to adopt all modalities set by the Supreme Court for a "correct" and "flawless" NRC and ensure that names of "no foreigners" enter and no genuine citizen is left out.

"The exercise of updating the NRC should reflect the national commitment and national duty and all efforts should be put into place to allay fears of certain sections of the people about NRC," Sonowal said.

Directing the authorities concerned to refer the 'D' voters issue to Foreigners' Tribunals so that cases could be disposed of on a fast-track basis, he said, "Due sensitivity must be shown to 'D' voters so that the sense of insecurity does not lead to resentment in any way."

Sonowal also reviewed the status of Multi Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP) and asked the Deputy Commissioners to put it in their "agenda of things" and accord due importance so that need-based schemes can be initiated for the welfare of minority communities.
