Paying rich tributes to B R Ambedkar on his 126th birth anniversary today, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said developing all sections of society is the prime objective of his government and all efforts are being taken for it.

There are small ethnic groups in the state with very little population that have to be developed equally along with other groups.

The government is committed to equal development of all sections of society and that until the fruits of progress reach the poorest of the poor the government cannot be termed successful, he said.

Sonowal asked the people to keep a close watch over the activities of the government so that efficient governance can be delivered at all levels.

Ambedkar, he said, had contributed immensely towards the uplift of the underprivileged and backward sections of society.

Ambedkar had made tremendous contribution to the success of Indian democracy by drafting the Constitution. India as a shining example of unity in diversity is thriving because of its Constitution that protects the aspirations and rights of all citizens.

A Ambedkar memorial lecture would be held every year in the state by the government, Sonowal said.
