Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today met Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati and urged her to take urgent steps to give relief to the flood affected people in Assam.
During the 15 minute meeting, Sonowal apprised Bharati about the flood situation in several parts of Assam, including Dhemaji, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur districts and the problems being faced by people due to the erosion of Brahmaputra.
The Water Resources Minister assured Sonowal that all possible help would be provided by the Central government to the flood affected people in the state, sources said.
Bharati also assured Sonowal, who is also BJP's Assam unit President, that her Ministry will request the Home Ministry to release funds under the Central natural calamity assistance funds.
