Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's elder brother Girish passed away in Delhi today due to a protracted illness.
Girish Sonowal (69) has been unwell for some time and was admitted to AIIMS for over three months. He is survived by wife, two daughters and a son, the release said.
He breathed his last as a result of multiple system failure, the release said. His body was embalmed at AIIMS and flown to Dibrugarh where his last rites will be perfomed this evening.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has rushed to Dibrugarh to join the members of the bereaved family in the hour of grief.
