Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said his government has given special impetus to empowerment of women as it has been pursuing several programmes.
The government has put special emphasis on women by empowering them and launched programmes including 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' for their uplift, Sonowal said at the 'Matri Sammelan' at Hojai.
The CM said of all the gurus, mothers are the most important as they occupy a crucial position in our society.

"The lessons we learn from them form the foundation on which our entire life is built," he rightly pointed out.
Reminding the selfless love, affection and service of mothers towards their wards teach everybody the lesson of service without any prejudice, Sonowal said according women the rightful place was the prerequisite for a developed Assam.
The CM also pointed out that Assam thrived on people living in harmony across segments and district boundaries.
"Our priority is to forge a society where even the poorest of the poor can lead a dignified life and it has been one of our endeavours to accord dignity to everybody living in different places - from Barak, Brahmaputra, Hills to Plains", Sonowal added.
