Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and urged him to take urgent steps for proper relief and rehabilitation of over two lakh people affected due to violence perpetrated by NDFB militants in Assam last week.

Sonowal also requested Singh to ensure proper security to those who want to return home.

The Sports Minister, who met Singh at North Block, told him that there is scarcity of warm clothes and potable water in relief camps where violence-hit people have taken shelter.

"I have urged the Home Minister to ensure that proper relief is provided to those who have taken shelter in camps and rehabilitate suitably those who desire to return home," Sonowal, who belongs to Assam, told PTI.

"The Home Minister told me that he has already spoken to the Assam Chief Minister and conveyed that Central government will provide all the help in relief and rehabilitation," he said.

More than two lakh people were displaced after Bodo militant group NDFB killed over 70 people in three districts of Assam last week.
