Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today urged teachers to become role models for students and not to take their profession as a mere job but as a service to the society.

"A teacher's job is not merely to produce successful students but they have a responsibility to create good human beings with high moral integrity," the chief minister said while launching the 'Lakshya' programme in Dibrugarh district.

An initiative of Dibrugarh district administration, 'Lakshya' aims at making the learning process easier and more attractive by utilizing online academic resources, digital classroom etc.

The state government was striving to develop a smart education system and for that the teachers must upgrade their skills with modern methodologies to instill an innovative thinking process in students, he said.

Sonowal also urged teachers to perform the role of a friend, philosopher and guide to the students and urged them not to confine their role within the walls of academic institutions alone.

He asked them to inculcate good hygiene practice among students.
