"Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter says the show's much-talked about prequel will not happen immediately and can take "a couple of years" or later to develop.

Sutter, 55, said he knew he did not want "to do anything that was 'Sons' related immediately (after it ended)," but he is still interested in the possible prequel, reported Aceshowbiz.

"It's something that we have talked about. It's something that we have interest in. We are interested. I think the timing of it really depends on what unfolds," he said about the prequel.

He added now he chose to focus on his new series for FX, "The Bastard Executioner".

"I think for me, and the network, it's taking the next obvious and right choice and ('The Bastard Executioner') is the energy we're moving in now."

Explaining why there seems to be little or no progress on the "Sons" prequel, he shared, "I knew I didn't want to do anything that was 'Sons' related immediately. I didn't want to come right off of that and do a prequel or anything like that.

"I wanted to give it a couple years to breathe before we came back to do it. So none of that has gone away. We'll see how the next couple years or at least the next year with ('The Bastard Executioner') unfolds and then we'll have to see.
